More than 350,000 people demonstrated in the Serbian capital against corruption and the government of President Aleksandar Vučić
Vučić in the largest protest in the country's history. The demonstrators
accuse Vučić of leading a corrupt network, controlling the judiciary,
and massively restricting media freedom. They also allege that he is
securing his power through rigged elections.
The anger is also
directed against a judiciary that does not act independently but serves
as a tool of the government. Political opponents are being suppressed,
arrested, and critical voices in the media are being silenced.
Surprisingly,
the same thing is happening in Germany. But while masses are taking to
the streets against the government in Serbia, a large portion of the
population in Germany is marching not against political control and
abuse of power, but together with the government against the opposition.
Why do people in other countries recognize authoritarian structures, but not in Germany?
