Turkey has announced its desire to join BRICS instead of the European Union:

 Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan believes that this could be a "good alternative to the EU." 

"Of course, we would like to become a member of the BRICS. Let's see how things go this year," Fidan said during a visit to China.

Ankara intends to participate in the meeting of BRICS ministers in Russia next week. Turkey's accession is expected to be one of the topics of discussion.
Peskov has already stated that Russia welcomes Turkey's desire.
