Een mythisch verhaal overgebracht op personen, die op aarde en als menschen gedacht werden, dan werd het tot sage, en dikwijls werd het dan met een of ander historisch persoon in verband gebracht.
Sage is dus een verhaal van de daden eener grootsche persoonlijkheid of van grootte gebeurtenissen, die, dikwijls zonder dat er historische grond voor te vinden is,
