New York City begins composting human remains to "fight climate change."
It is the sixth state in America to legalize human composting.
The
bill is introduced by Democratic State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and
Democratic State Senator Leroy Comrie.
It states that "Natural Organic
Reduction accelerates the process of biological decomposition in an
above-ground container by naturally turning human remains into soil.
This method will provide New Yorkers with an environmentally sustainable
and cost-effective alternative to burial and cremation. Natural Organic Reduction was legalized in Washington State in 2019 and is currently undergoing legislative work in other states.
