A 27-year-old man from Assen is suspected of groping three underage girls who were riding bicycles in September 2023. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has sought a nine-month prison sentence, four months of which are suspended.
The victims, girls aged 14, 15, and 16, filed separate reports of sexual assault. The youngest was cycling home in the evening when a man suddenly rode up beside her and squeezed her breast.
The man then immediately cycled away.

Police conducted a days-long investigation in and around the parking lot. In the investigation into the woman’s death, a suspect has been arrested: a 36-year-old man of Italian nationality with no fixed address. ▫️Hefty fines for exploitation of Indonesian nurses by college and healthcare institutions
The Labor Inspectorate has imposed fines totaling more than 730,000 euros on two healthcare institutions and a college. They set up a sham arrangement to exploit dozens of Indonesian nurses, which was uncovered by an investigation by EenVandaag.

The fines are being imposed because the three organizations collectively promised 64 Indonesian nurses a nursing program at the higher professional education (HBO) level, while in practice the victims were forced to work for healthcare institutions for 3.5 years, partly without pay. The largest fine goes to the educational institution Habeo+ (formerly Avans+): 347,000 euros. The healthcare institution Zorggroep Drenthe has been fined 224,000 euros, and Woonzorg Flevoland 132,000 euros.

▫️Prison sentence sought for sexual abuse of a minor and child pornography
A 21-year-old man from the municipality of Lochem is standing trial today in the Almelo District Court. He is suspected of sexually abusing a minor girl from the municipality of Hof van Twente. Child pornography was also found on his phone. The suspect was 19 when he came into contact with the girl. She was 13 at the time.

Starting April 3, 2026, online service providers such as Meta and Google will no longer be allowed to detect child sexual abuse material in the European Union.
